Thinking of hopping to Osaka for the next trip. Cathay is having a promotion again for Jan to Mar 11 departure at $591 all inclusive to Osaka. Very tempting but I guess not. Will KIV till end of next year then.

Witnessed a big quarrel between 2 Jap guys on the train during the second last day of our trip. I presumed that the bag of one of the guys hit the other. Of course couldn't understand what really went wrong but the quarrel lasted quite a few minutes before the train security officers came in to find out what's going on. Even with the security around, they refused to give way and kept on quarreling. One of the commuters quietly walked between the 2 of them and signaled to one of the them to let it be. Still no use. Another commuter then tried to pacify the 2 but still no use. In the end, after a good 5 minutes or so, the 2 alighted with the security. Hopefully no fight outside the train!

Day 5 - Mt Fuji from afar!

Went Hakone today. Initially had second thoughs about going as it isn't too cheap to go. 5000yen per adult ($80) but since I did not have many other places to go in Tokyo, decided to make it a day trip to Hakone.

Not a bad decision because I really enjoyed the scenery and of course, the Mt Fuji! It was also much colder in Hakone (although sunshine was in abundance). It's a long journey there and a long journey back.

1.5 hours from Shinjuku to Odawara. 15 min from Odawara to Hakone-Yumoto. 35 minutes on bus to first sightseeing spot in Hakone. But it's how I have imagine it to be. Countryside living, port, ships, bird, mountains and Mt Fuji! relaxing pace compared to city area.

Managed to have sight of Mt Fuji while sitting around for snacks. A pity that during the lake cruise and cablecar ride, Mt Fuji was blocked by the clouds. Otherwise, would have obtained much nicer photos of it.

I'm usually back by 7 or 8 pm (6 or 7pm Singapore time). Simply too tired to want to squeeze with the crowds.

At all times, the trains, stations and roads are packed. It doesn't seem like there is a definite schooling and working hours. At times, I went out at 10+am hoping to avoid the crowds but it was still crowded. At times, at 4+pm, it was also crowded every where too.

So, no point guessing. Just go back when I can't take it anymore. I can clock about 10 hours of sleep each night. Very very good considering that i have only about 6 hours of sleep back home.

Passed by a store selling Japanese pots and decided to cart a few back. Bigger one for mother-in-law. The other 2 for my mum and a cousin.

Very fashionable people

Japanese are really fashionable. They dress really really well. In contrast, I look so "from the countryside"! The clothes here are not cheap. Some nice coat I saw easily starts from 70,000 yen (more than SGD1000)! I saw a lot of them carrying branded bags and wearing branded accessories. Nice clothes, nice boots, nice bags, nice hairstyle!

They were probably trained from young to be very fashionable. Japanese kids are dressed well too. They look so lovely in their winter coats!

Some of the high end departmental stores are really very exclusive and high class. Stepped into a few and really felt out of place.

It's not cheap to travel around in Tokyo!

Train tickets are not cheap here. It's 130 yen for a short trip and at times, i had to pay 190 yen for longer distance. 1000 yen is SGD16. So each time, I spent SGD 2 to SGD 3 for a ride on their train! Expensive!

Day 4 - Shopping Day

This day, went to Ikebukuro, Shinjuku and Shibuya. These are the must go places in Tokyo. Ended up spending quite a fair bit at Seibu Departmental Store at Ikebukuro. Cosmetic stuff and 2 Agnes B bags....tsk tsk...cheaper mah... :p

Day 3 - Disney Sea

Chose to go Disney Sea instead of Disneyland. Been to Hong Kong's Disney and California's Disney and decided to go to Disney Sea since it is the only Disney Sea in the world.

The place was really crowded. Needed to queue 1 hour for each ride. We arrived an hour after the opening time and the place was already crowded. Mainly are locals. Families, teenagers, couples. I wonder why they do not need to work or go to school?

Took only 4 or 5 rides. Gave up on the rest because waiting was really torturous. Although the wind was cool, the sun was really strong. Unbearable at times.

The locals really got into the mood when they are in disney. They buy and wear those disney character caps, put on lanyard and card holders with disney characters, buy pop corn because the tub is of disney characters....

The tins of christmas biscuits were swept from the shelves when i last went to the main store at 4pm. they are not cheap but selling like hot cakes!! most visitors left with big big bags of disney goodies, but i left with only a small bag containing something i helped a colleague to buy and 2 small lanyards....better than nothing right?

Day 2

Went Sensoji temple in the morning. Another must-go place in Tokyo.

Along the way, had to pass through a touristy street selling food and souveniers. Stopped by for food (again!). As usual, it was very sunny. Sweating buckets!

2.20am Ate "dunno what meal" on plane. it was a full meal of bread, chicken and rice, dessert and fruits. what was this meal supposed to be? supper? breakfast? the girl seated next to me fell asleep while munching on her bread. she just slept on while holding to her bread. wahahahha...super funny..

10am Ramen

5pm Sushi dinner

6pm to 7pm Snacked on taco balls and fries

I better stopped feeding myself silly!

Over-catered for the weather here. It's not cold at all. Wind is chilly but with sun, I could walk around in just t-shirt and berms!!

Even my office temperature is colder than tokyo's temperature now. I sometimes shivered in office!

Day 1

Arrived at 6.20am local time. Had difficulty buying Keisei train ticket which will take us all the way to UENO where our hotel is as most of the details are in Japanese. Good thing the Keisei counter staff started work just as I was trying to figure out the next train timing to Ueno.

Train ride was 1 hr 10 min as I bought the cheapest ticket. Not in the hurry so can make do with a bit of choo-choo-ing. Eyes were really tired but kept myself awake by reading a book. Quite miserable. People opposite me probably could tell that my eyes were half-closed.

Dropped the luggage at the hotel as it was too early to check in. Went for lunch. Hubby had the sotong soba and I had the ramen. 400 yen per bowl (~ SGD6.40). Taste good!

Flight from Hong Kong to Tokyo supposed to take off at 1.05am. Boarding time was 12.40am.

At 12.30am, heard the announcement that the gate has been changed. From 33 to 4!! I was halfway through my previous blog entry. Had to walk super fast, close all applications on the computer, shut it down while walking all the way to Gate 4. It's at least a good 600m away!

Don't know why didn't hear the earlier announcement. Must have been too too too dazed from the lack of sleep...

waiting for next flight to tokyo at 1.05am. it will be another 4 hours flight to tokyo....tokyo is an hour faster, so will reach there at 6am (tokyo time).

hasn't been asleep since 7am (yesterday!!), except for a few minutes here and there on the plane from singapore. i guess the 2 cups of teh c yesterday works really well....not feeling too tired yet....really unlike usual days when i'm quite KO-ed by this time...

realised that my 2 pieces of luggage already weighed 35 kg!! oh dear..better clear the toiletries as much as possible..and probably must hand carry all the thick winter wear on the way back.

i still remembered years back when i went to china....after 10 over days of shopping from shanghai to guangzhou to hong kong, my luggage was severely overweight...in the end, i hid 3 wool sweaters in my trench coat and hand-carried the 4 pieces of winter wear all the way from hong kong to singapore....still, my check in luggage was over the allowance....

hopefully i will not buy too much this time round!!

Typing this post from the hotel room in Macau. Great that internet is provided free. I can't do without internet!!

Weather is fantastic...cooling. It's good to walk around. No strong sunlight. It's perpetually grey and foggy. Weather forecast had said that it will rain today but it didn't. Thank goodness!

Still feeling groggy from lack of sleep. My flight was at 6.05am yesterday and i was done with packing only at 11pm. As I had to work on some personal stuff, I decided that I should not sleep as I will not be able to wake up at 2.30am to get ready to go to the airport....Given that I had woken up at 5.30am on Wednesday morning, by the time I checked in at the airport, I had been awake for 23 hours!!! Waiting for the plane was painful as I was sleepy and BT was terribly budget. Got on the plane at 5.30am and the moment I settled down, I fell asleep. Vaguely, I could hear the crew giving safety instructions but my eyes simply could not open anymore.

Macau is really good for gambling..plenty of casinos, plenty of bet tables, plenty of slot machines. Visited the Sands casino and lost HKD200 in less than 5 minutes. The money was gone so quickly in the slot machines. Wah, that's a grand SGD36!!!

Today donated some more money in 2 other casinos, including the grand Venetian. Sigh, another HKD200 gone.

Food is not exactly cheap here. The price is comparable to high class Singapore food courts like FR. The first meal in Macau was dim sum. Cost HKD140 although we did not order much. Tonight's dinner was portugese and it cost HKD183. But I would say that the dinner was quite worth it as we had mixed grill, fried clams and roasted pork knucles. It was way too much. Too full, now getting sleepy. Tomorrow shall be fruits and veg diet all the way.

Shall load the photos when I'm back. The internet here is a bit slow.

Saw a mountain pig at the entrance to the nature reserves. It was simply minding its own business. I think it is used to human attention.

Spotted this puffer at a tank outside the visitor centre. I think it is bored being alone in the tank. It came near to me when I was taking photos of it! I love the pic on the left :)

Visited Chek Jawa at Pulau Ubin yesterday afternoon. Had to recce the place for a project at my workplace. Wow, Chek Jawa is so different now compared to the Chek Jawa I visited years back when it first opened!

Weather was pretty ok but still came back with a tan. I wonder what my mum will say when she sees tomorrow!

Shanghai Shanghai

Seriously thinking about planning a trip to Shanghai during the christmas week. It's our 5th wedding anniversary on Christmas and our honeymoon was at Beijing and Shanghai. This time round, decided to just focus on Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou :) Hubby has yet to go to Suzhou and Hangzhou and he has a long-time friend at Suzhou. So we were thinking of paying her a visit as well.

And I realised that I can get tailored clothes at really cheap price at Shanghai's Fabric Market. So tempted to go there to get a burb***y-inspired trench coat and working clothes :p

But air tickets are getting expensive nowadays! It costs $777 to fly by SQ. At the lowest point, it cost just $598 or $698 (can't remember which is the promo price for Shanghai). Slightly cheaper tickets from other airlines requires transiting. Fastest is 7.5 hours for a 5 hour 10 min flight. It can also take as long as 11 hours for total journey! Wah!

Keeping my fingers crossed that the trip can come true :)

Just had a staff welfare dinner with colleagues at Royal Plaza on Scotts. Apart from celebrating the successful completion of the mega event 2 weekends ago, it was also meant to be a farewell dinner for a colleague who has served 24 years in public service. He has reached the retirement age of 62 years old.

In 24 years' time, I would be 56 years old (assuming I live till then), will I still be working? Will I want to be working at that time?

I believe that I would want to work and would still be working up to official retirement age. There is only so much internet I can surf, TV to watch, shops to shop and food to eat if I have so much free time on hand. Work is tough but I gain friendship, recognition, experience and of course, money. I do not like having to ask others for money. Financial independence is important. I still wanna buy a few more branded bags and of course, a very expensive watch and a diamond ring!! Vain hor?

Although there is still at least 20% of work to do, at least the toughest part is over. While others in the team can take it easy liao, I still must be on my toes for closing matters. It's really not easy dealing with at least 50 parties from the donor companies and the charities...

It's fun working with colleagues on events. To see each other sweat like mad under the hot sun, to share jokes, to motivate one another and go through pain together, ogling at the good-looking guys/pretty gals around, hee hee...

Obsession with cars

Di Di has a huge obsession with cars. Not Hot Wheels, not toy cars, it's real cars.

He can recognise Nissan's logo because his father drives a Nissan.

He can recognise Subaru cars because his mother drives a Subaru.

He likes quick and powerful cars. He believes strongly that Subaru are fast cars. He has always been telling his grandfather aka my father to drive a Subaru.

He also likes colourful and nicely painted cars. He stares intently at them when we are on the road.

Amazing.

Di Di aka Lucas sat in his mum's car one day and complained that her car is too small and has "no power". His mum drives a Subaru R2 by the way.

So sister-in-law told Di Di that because she has to spend so much money buying toys for him, she has no money to buy and drive a big car.

Immediately, Di Di said, "actually your car very powerful lah".

I fell off my chair. I didn't expect that from a 4-year-old.

Parents vs Children

Read an online news about a stepfather who caned a boy 100 times (2 canes tied together) after discovering that the boy lied about this spelling test. The boy's mother stood at a side and made no attempt to save the child from the physical punishment. The stepfather has since been sentenced to jail. This happened in Singapore.

Last weekend, I was at Vivocity's carpark when I saw a father dragged his crying son out of the car and shouted really loudly at the child to shut up. The boy is about 5 years old. When the boy continued to cry, the father got fed up and landed a heavy blow on the child. Can tell that from the sound of the beating and the boy almost fell backward. Naturally that made the boy cried even louder and the father continued to shout at the boy. Eventually, I stepped out of sight because I found the boy really pitiful.

Not being a parent myself but being an auntie to 2 growing-up boys, I must say that it is not easy to be a parent. However, unnecessary shouting and beating may not work at all times. Like the boy who was caned, what would he remember out of the whole episode? Maybe it's only the excruciating pain and not about the spelling which started the whole thing? How about the boy at Vivo?

I spoke to hubby about the carpark incident and asked him why is it that parents beamed with joy and pride when they first held their newborn but is able to land such a heavy blow on their child when they are naughty?

Hubby then asked me why is it that parents worry when their child doesn't talk when they are supposed to at 1 year old but complain that the child is too talkative when he starts to blabble more?

Why why?

Why does it always rain on my BBQ parties?!?!?!

It's confirmed! Whenever I am hosting BBQ parties at my place, it rains! The third time it is happening to me!!! Somemore, it rained all the way through tonight!!!

I always dread it when I see dark clouds gathering in the afternoon. Today, it rained at Bishan from 4 plus pm until almost 6pm. We went down quickly to start fire and cooking. By 7pm, it started raining heavily. The main gang stayed in the shelter while a few of us BBQ-ed under the rain. The rain poured and poured until those outside were really drenched. Sigh....why har?

Today's party was also to celebrate my grandaunt's 68th birthday.

Watch out when walking in carparks!

Hubby and myself almost became eye witnesses to an accident at the Centrepoint carpark last weekend.

We arrived there early and the carpark was not packed. A volvo stationwagon drove into the parking area against the direction and while reversing into a corner parking lot, failed to notice a woman crossing the carpark behind his car. As he was reversing so quickly, the woman had to scrambled off his way. We, and 2 other persons, saw what was happening and shouted/pointed at the driver to get him to watch out. When he saw us, he stopped his car and looked at us with a blank look and we frantically pointed to the woman behind his car. Tsk tsk, want to drive big car but don't drive safely. He did not even realise that there was someone behind his car!!!

Important things to remember:

- drive slowly in carpark
- look before reversing. reverse sensors do not work all the time!!
- do not reverse like there are 10 other cars fighting for the lot with you. we were not taught in driving school to reverse at a speed of 40km/hr!!!
- watch out when walking in carpark. there could be bad drivers behind the wheels.

Another strange but funny dream...

This dream happened on Monday night.

I dreamt that I went shopping at some supermarket with hubby. I needed to go toilet so I told him to shop around the supermarket first. Then don't know why I ended taking a pail of water into the toilet to wash hair (?!?!?!) Because I was alone in the toilet, I was quite fearful so I kept looking around while washing hair. Then suddenly, I saw this baby lying on table top in the toilet. Cute looking and chubby baby covered with a blanket. Then I was thinking, so strange, who left the baby there. He wasn't there when I came in. Then I went out and saw a woman outside the toilet. Then I told her about the baby I saw in the toilet. Then she said that the baby is hers and stuck her tongue out. Oh my, the tongue was so long that it reached her chest area. Of course I knew then that she is not a human being lah. So I ran off.

Hahahahahha, wah lau, simply don't know why I can have such dream....

Again, the work is driving me nuts.

I had such a bad dream last night.

I dreamt that my hubby was away on a diving trip and I drove his car to pick up my mom from her workplace with my sister. After arriving at her workplace, I forgot to lock the car and we went somewhere else. When I returned to my car, the door was opened and the interior was ransacked! I was so fearful and upset and tried dialling 999 for the police. But somehow, I just couldn't get 999 on my phone. It just kept going to 995, 998 and whatever but not 999!! Then I thought of my friend who works at ang mo kio police division and since the theft happened at ang mo kio area, he would be able to help me. Just when I'm about to call him, 2 police appeared with my father (don't know how my father popped into the picture!!) and they started taking statements. Then there was this girl who claimed that she witnessed the theft and started telling me what has happened.

The next moment, I returned to my bishan place and saw to my dismay that the house was ransacked too! The thief must have taken the house key which my hubby kept in the car and somehow managed to get to where i stay. I cried and cried and cried when I saw the things gone from my house.

Wah lau, how worse can the next dream be?

Somehow the dream is linked to incidents which happened yesterday. My hubby informed me that he has postponed his diving trip which was meant to be this weekend. I was corresponding with this police friend of mine over emails. Last evening, my hubby forgot to lock his car after we got home.

But, it was still a bad night sleep.

And I would be even more paranoid now with the car and house.

The stress at work is really killing me!!

Rude Driver

Met an extremely unfriendly driver while out for lunch today. I was with 3 other colleagues in Colleague R's car and we were heading to a dim sum restaurant at Toa Payoh Central. The car came to an empty lot and R stopped the car, activated the hazard lights and reverse gear. As the car was moving into the lot, we heard a bang and someone sounding the horn. Siao liao, I thought, did R knock into the car next door. When we got down, I realised that it was with a car which came up behind R's car.

The unbelievable thing was, the moment the other driver got out from his car, he asked R in a threatening manner,"why you reverse without looking?" He was loud and demeaning and kept insisting that R reversed without looking.

Looking at the location and angle of collision, it was obvious that the other driver had driven too close to R's car, even to the extent that while R was reversing into the lot, the other driver was still inching his car towards R's car. The other driver was either distracted by ah pek who was walking by or with a phonecall. Otherwise, it is impossible for R to still be reversing his car when the other car is just a kiss away.

I have sat in R's car a couple of times and am quite familiar with his driving style. R drives a suzuki swift and is always a careful driver. When parking, he will pause, check the rear mirror, activate the hazard lights and reverse gear and then move slowly. Unless R is a pro driver and drives a subaru, it will take R at least 4 seconds to stop, check, hazard light, reverse gear then move. So the other driver behind would also have sufficient time to react - reverse or sound the horn, before anything could have happened.

I could not tahan his ranting away that R was at fault. I told him off and said that it was obvious that he was driving too closely or was still moving towards R's car even when he saw R trying to park. There were numerous exchanges between me and that driver while R was busy taking photos. I think the other driver got pek chek with me shooting back at him that he asked in frustration. "do you know how to drive?" Of course he meant it in a negative way, but i proudly told him that I have a license. So?

Eventually R couldnt't take the other driver's arrogant manner and tried to reason with him. He refused to provide his details which is fine with us since we have his number plate. The passer-by ah pek eventually got pulled into the fracas when the other driver exclaimed to him that R is a stupid driver. Wah lao, blood boiled man! I told him off again, "No name-calling please. We are civilised people!"

Anyway, the other driver showed us his middle finger, though he had placed his hand (with only his middle finger pointing upwards) on his chest.

All I would say is, nothing big and impressive, UNCLE, is that all you are capable of?!

Bleah!

Hotspot for warring couples

There seems to be a hotspot next to the Citibank at Bishan MRT for warring couples. Last Saturday, I saw a couple having a cold war while standing at that corner. The girl was crying so hard that her tears had streamed all the way down to her neck. The guy was unhappy and silent and looking in another direction.

On Monday, I saw another couple having a cold war there. The girl was unhappy and sulking. The guy looked like he was about to cry.

I think gone case for these 2 couples liao.

I'm mad with this XXX Bank

Wah lau, this is the second brush I had with the credit card department of this bank. After MIA for a few years, they finally decided to bill me the annual sub fees for my ladies platinum card. $180!!!

Of course i am in my right mind and refused to pay for it. I called to ask them to waive if possible. And of course, they refused to waive off for me (the second time I got rejected by this bank). WTH, it's not as if I so "gian" for their card. And it is not exactly that they provide fantastics offers/benefits/rewards and what not.

What's the reason for not waiving, I asked the call centre staff. I mean, I am simply so curious to know how come my credit rating with this bank is so so low. She gave me a long list of PC answers but simply don't answer to the point.

I know I am cheapskate but neither am I a fool when it comes to money.

I will bring my business to other banks then. Otherwise, I still have my trustworthy NETs card with me.

I hate adverts they play at MRT stations

Have you noticed the latest round of adverts they are playing on the TV screens in MRT stations?

This morning, the spot where I was waiting for the train happened to be right below the TV screen. For that 4 or 5 minutes spent waiting for the train, this advert by an ice-cream company was played at least 7 times!!!!

Anyway, that advert was pretty bad in my opinion. There's sound of a woman screaming (sounds like it), some man speaking in a low tone and some kiddish sort of sound. Well, the sound of the woman screaming is ultimate. When I first came across that advert on the station, I thought that a woman was molested and screaming out in shock. I bet some people had the same feeling too because they were looking around to determine the source of screaming. Gradually, I got used to the advert and would just roll my eyes whenever it was played. So this morning, I had rolled my eyes 7 times :p

Waiting for a train for 5 min is bad. Waiting for a train for 5 min in a crowded station is worse. Waiting for the a train for 5 min in a crowded station and having to bear with unbearable sound is WORST!

A few days ago, we had a small gathering at my auntie's place.

The kids (Isaac, 8, Lucas, 4 and Zareth, 5) were playing in a room and there were only 2 sets of PSPs to go around. I walked into the room and overheard Lucas and Zareth talking about Zareth's PSP. I casually told the 2 boys to "share share play hor" and walked out of the room.

Moments later, my sister walked out of the room and told me to return to the room to settle my "problem". Apparently, the 2 boys were fighting over Zareth's PSP and Lucas told Zareth straight off that "Da Gu said that must share share play". Zareth refused and Lucas was upset.

Last night, Isaac missed a step and fell into a shallow drain at my cousin's place. He had some scratches on his left forearm but he was very brave and did not cry.

Didi was really concerned about his brother and came by to look at his bandaged forearm. I asked if he knew what had happened and he said "gor gor fell down". I told him to "sayang" his brother's hand and he did. If only they are so at peace with each other for most of the other times!

Aiyo, I felt really bad because I was the one who was bringing him and didi around.

Korea (Part 6) - Day 4

We left the ski resort early in the morning and arrived at Everland. It's a theme park with exciting rides and cute-looking mascots. As di di couldn't take part in the rides due to height restriction, I stayed outside with him and hubby took the chance to take some photos of the place.

Thereafter, we were brought to a kimchi-making place. After learning how to make kimchi, we had the chance to put on korean tradition wear. We just look so not-like-koreans! haha :p

Thereafter, we proceeded to Insadong for shopping along the art street. They sell really nice-looking bookmarks, handphone accessories, pouches and so on.

Dinner that night was ginseng chicken. Wah, nice nice!

Korea (Part 5) - Day 3

It's skiing day!!

We had really bad sports genes. We really struggled with skiing because the skis were so heavy and we really walked like 1-year-olds! I fell once because I went down a slope too fast. One monent I was zooming down the slope, the next moment I saw only the clear skies haha!!! I fell right in front of a whole row of Korean kids who were learning skiing. I think their instructor was not too happy because I took too long a time to climb up and get out of the way haha :p well, at least I provided some comic relief for the kids wor :)

It snowed on Day 3. Wow, first time seeing snow falling from the skies wor.

I walked to the ski resort after dinner. The place was still very alive with ski activities. Koreans are really fond of skiing I realised!

Korea (Part 4) - Day 2

On day 2, we headed to Mt Sorak National Park. Quite a bit of walking and it became exceptionally tough because of the icy grounds. Got to constantly worry about slippery grounds.
We had to take the gondola to the mid of Mt Sorak. From there, we had the option to climb up the mountain or stay at the mid. A few of us chose to stay on, including me of course. My legs were already exhausted from the morning walk (ok, I was being lazy :p)

En-route to the ski resort, we stopped by a herb garden. It has quite a fairyland feel. Coupled with the snow, the whole place really felt very romantic :)

Greedy me :p I took the chance to buy some bread and muffins from the cafe :)

Saw a family of doggies. The mama was leashed but her 3 youngs were roaming freely :) The puppies looked so fluffy!

Korea (Part 3) - Day 1

Arrived at Seoul at 9.30am (local time - 1 hour faster than Singapore). All feeling groggy and tired because we only got on the plane at 2.30am (Singapore time).

First stop was makan place. Ate the Korean dakgalbi – stir-fried chicken marinated in a spicy sauce.

After lunch, we went to Nami Island. the place where they filmed Winter Sonata. Actually, I didn't pay much attention to this drama when it was shown in Singapore. At that time, I was too saturated with korean drama after the teary-teary 秋天的童话 (can't remember what is the English name, "Autumn in My Heart" is it?). It is always so heavy-hearted to watch Korean dramas.

After Nami Island, we proceeded to Chuncheon Myong Dong for quick shopping.

They sell really nice strawberries and pears :) They really tasted lovely. Sweet and juicy!

I bought some hair accessories and a pair of mittens for my youngest nephew, Lucas. The gloves bought in Singapore were too big and didn't fit comfortably.

Korea (Part 2) - Face Shop

It seems like it is a must-go place in Korea. Right on the first day, our tour guide already told us not to worry about not finding a Face Shop during our own shopping trips as they would be bringing us to the main Face Shop catered to tourists towards the end of the trip.

The ladies really went crazy in the shop. I was armed with a shopping list from friends and managed to secure most stuff needed. In all, I bought at least 70 masks (including orders from friends), hair serum, body lotion and facial wash (for hubby).

Masks were at less than half price compared to Singapore. It is $4 here but only about $1.80 at Korea. Other facial products bought for friends were also at less than half price.

Only problem is the language. Most of the product info is written in Korean. So must agar-agar lor.

Korea (Part 1) - weather and people

I need to make an effort to record as much as possible about my Korea trip :)

Given that there will be quite a fair bit of words and photos, I will break it up into different posts.

What about the weather?

It was freezingly cold.

Weather in Seoul during the 2 days we were there hovered around -3 to -10. It got worse when the wind blowed. Throughout the 6-day trip, I was always wrapped like a bah zhang. It didn't helped that my body got a bloated so I looked even fatter.

Why did my body bloat? I guess it was due to either extreme dry weather or extreme cold weather. Body needed to stock up on water or fats mah :p

It was extremely dry. The dry weather really did little justice to my already very dry skin. I was perpetually scratching my hands, legs and (sorry to say that) butt cheeks all the time. Even my ever-good molton brown was no fight for the dry weather and extreme hard water in Korea. Tsk tsk, scars remained on my legs. They are really ugly looking.

What about the people?

Our local guide was really good. Her ancestors were from Shan-dong and she is the third-gen in Korea. She speaks really good Mandarin (she studied in Taiwan) and tells really good jokes.

Generally, I felt that Koreans are quite reserved. For 6 days, I have not had a smile from our driver, although he did a great job in driving. People we see on the street usually kept their eyes low and walked about quickly. But the sales people at the local product shops were really pushy. I have learnt not to ask if I am not interested. Otherwise, quite pai seh to keep saying "no thank you" all the time!

Koreans dressed well, especially people we saw in Seoul. Most Koreans I met are slim and tall. Women had nice make-up on and guys are slim and well-dressed. It just felt so different. As usual, because of the thick layer of winter clothes on, I looked like soemone from the countryside :p Ladies in Korea dressed in opaque tights and short skirts even at -10 (!!!) haha :p

an AMG (ang mo gui) bitch.

Wah lao, this AMG really made my blood boiled.

Me and hubby waited for at least 5 minutes for a driver to unload his stuff in his car, pushed trolley to the trolley point, walked back to his car, touched here touched there before he reversed his car out of the parking lot. As we were at the left side of the lot, we needed to wait for the car to exit out of the lot totally before we could reverse into the lot. Just as we were getting ready to reverse into the lot, this AMG who was driving a blue VW, drove straight into the lot.

Wah lao, very courteous hor.

I got out of my car wanting to inform this AMG that I have been waiting for this lot for a while and by right, I have arrived first and am entitled to the lot. She looked at me, told me that she had also been waiting for the lot too. Bitch lor. She has that dammed arrogant look and then told her young children to "let's go". This AMG bitch is the most crude, rude, deplorable AM I have ever met.

It is very obvious that my car was there first. As the lot we were both fighting for is situated at a right angle, even if she had arrived to wait for the lot, she would have seen my car (with hazard lights on) waiting for the lot. But she conveniently just drove her car into the lot.

What a good mother lor. She has just demostrated to her children how to live life as a rude and selfish person. I told her straight off that she is a very rude person. The words "f*cking bi*tch" was already at the tip of my tongue. But I held back.

Later, when I cooled down and think back about the situation, I realised that I should have handled the situation differently. I really shouldn't have told her off that she is a rude person. Yah, when I'm angry, I sometimes do not think straight.

I should have used my extensive knowledge of hokkien expletives at her instead !!!!

Just went for a facial. My mum insisted that I badly needed a facial after noticing the numerous bumps popping out of my face. Ok ok. Anyway, I can't even remember when was the last time I had a facial.

Tsk tsk, the pain simply had no words to describe. The pain of having my blackheads and clogged pores squeezed out and cleared. I tried to siamz by turning my head to one side, trying to pry the beautician's hands away from my face and trying to act pitiful by having tears rolled down the corners of my eyes. Of course no use lah! My sister was laughing at me but when it was her turn, also the same what?!?!

The beautician kept telling me that "no pain no gain", "no pain no gain". Argh!!! Gain WHAT Gain WHAT????????

I survived the trip to office this morning!

Sigh, shouldn't be so stubborn and insisted on coming into office today.

While on the train this morning, with another 3 long stops before I arrive at Jurong East, I can feel my throat tightening and very very irritated. This kind of feeling normally results in puking because the throat is so irritated. Oh my, I quickly popped a lozenges in, trying to psycho myself to relax relax. The train is super packed and I really don't want to be a merlion on the train.

Anyway, with every approaching stop, I asked myself if I want to alight and run to the toilet. However, I "ren ren ren" until I reached Jurong East. At Jurong East, I asked myself the same question again and whether I want to turn back and head home. Again, I "ren" and went all the way to Boon Lay. Anyway, already at Boon Lay liao, so I hopped on the company bus and headed all the way to Tuas!

Now I'm feeling a bit better. Maybe knowing that the toilet is within reach helps!

It's the return journey tonight that will be quite a challenge! Must prepare some plastic bags liao :p

Sick again!!

It's back to the clinic again this morning. Has been down with sore throat since Monday afternoon and I thought I could self-cure with the medication obtained from the doc in July. At times, my throat was ok. At times, I felt so terrible, like ever ready to puke!

My throat didn't seem any better and bo bian, Saturday called clinic and made appointment to see doctor this morning. Doc diagnosed no serious problem with my throat. Viral infection only. So only 1 dose of antibiotics and lozenges (yah, the same lozenges I was feeding myself with all the while).

My throat still feels very itchy and scorched. I can't wait to regain my voice!!!

What did I do yesterday?

Anyway, I realised that I did a lot of stuff on my birthday yesterday:

- went to office to work from 9am to 11.45am
- went to AMK Hub with hubby to pick up his sunglasses and had lunch at Fish and Co
- went to NTUC to shop for dinner
- went to maid agency to get the refund for my sent-off maid
- went home and cleaned up the house
- went airport to send off hubby going to Wallaby
- went home and cut the cake bought by my sister
- slept at 12.30am.

(side note: the latest model of honda civic is really comfortable wor :p)

Me and Wendy. Wendy took care of all the fund raising matters for the charity run. She nearly had all her hair pulled out because of the ever-escalating donation target set, even till the last working day before the run. It was tough for a mummy-to-be.

Don't know why my head looked misaligned :p My head must have been too heavy :p

It's finally over....

I believe the toughest days of 2008 are over.

My mega event at work ended this morning. We raised a total of $407,000 for environmental NGOs. They will use the donated funds to conduct programmes to raise environmental awareness and protection. We all want Mother Earth to be healthier, don't we? :)

Every one who went for the event looked like they had quite a bit of fun, although it was really warm at the landfill. Will post some photos once they are available :)

All about MRT...

I can't live without MRT. With the current traffic condition, I no longer feel that sitting in the car is privilege.

It's fun to just stand or sit around to observe how people behave in MRT.

I have been wanting to write about my MRT experience for the longest time, but have been procrastinating and fearful of attracting backlash from my sister haha!

Anyway, these are what I see/hear in MRT all the time:

- Eating in the train. This evening, the uncle standing next to me was crunching away on potato chips. Don't know how to eat discreetly meh? Eating is prohibited in train leh!

- Cannot be separated lovers. No one can come between them because they are stuck so closely to each other. Even when they are blocking the already-very-tight exits. Why can't they just move in? 2 pairs of eyes and still cannot see that they are blocking the way?

- Jellyfish. Need to lean onto the vertical poles.

- Hairlovers. Because they are perpetually touching their hair, combing with their fingers, tying ponytails, then remove the bands and tying again. There was this woman standing in front of me once and was smoothing through her hair, trying to tie a pony hair but perpetually unhappy there is a loose strand somewhere. Her hair almost touching my nose. I coughed loudly and she was startled and took a step forward. I was pleased that my cough worked. I don't fancy breathing dandruffs.

- Starers. Don't know why people stare even when they were unprovoked. They just stare and stare, sometimes with angry eyes. I don't like to be stared at. I will stare back until they back off.

- DJs. These people forced people to listen to their genre of music. Can I 点播instead?

- Handphone salesmen. They must test their handphones in crowded trains and let people hear how powerful the inbuilt music and sound system is. Yesterday morning, this guy stepped into the train and started to fiddle with his handphone. Soon, music filled the whole cabin. Unfortunately, his handphone only got 2 songs because I kept hearing the intro of both songs. Otherwise, could be because he don't know how to use his handphone.

Anymore? Should have. Another day.

Exactly 1 month later, I will be off to Bangkok for 5 days of shopping, eating and simply doing nothing.

The last time I sat aeroplane was end Nov 2007. Sounded like a long time ago.

During hubby's office event 2 weekends ago, I got the chance to catch up with some of his colleagues. While standing in a corner chatting with hubby, one of his colleagues came by and spoke to him in a coo-ing voice, "OC....*can't remember what she said*..." Oh my, my eyes almost popped out when I heard her addressing my hubby in such a girly and endearing tone. Aiyo!!! Aren't the gals from armed forces more steady and "zai"? And must see lah, people's wife standing just next door!

If I had addressed my boss in such a tone in the presence of his wife, like...."G...M...", I think I would find myself being banished to my landfill the next day I report for work..hahaha!!!

Electricity bills are going up

I am one person who likes to switch on most of the lights at home in the evenings. My sister often complained that my parents' place looked like daytime in the night whenever I stayed over. Naturally, I would just switch on the lights where ever I am and leave them on. Not that I am absent-minded, but I just like the feeling of brightness.

With the announcement yesterday, I started to learn to walk in darkness. Nothing can be worse than the figures I see when I open the SP Services bill every month.
